Erik Hokkanen & The Hip Replacements
February 6 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm CST
Erik Hokkanen is an American fiddler, guitar player, and composer living in Austin, Texas. Erik is known for performing and composing an array of musical styles, including gypsy music, western swing, surf rock, rock music, rockabilly, bluegrass music, and classical. He moves effortlessly among instruments, often playing violin while an electric guitar hangs down his back. The Hip Replacements are Will Webster on a variety of instruments and Tyler Lamborn on bass.
“Will Webster is among the few young musicians today who did not grow up in the 1920s that you will swear must be lying about his age. Crooked mountain reels careen out of the fiddle cradled in his elbow. East Texas rags take on a new life played through the 5-string banjo with his bottle-neck slide. The range and depth of Will’s art do old-fashioned justice to venerable music from the likes of Sam Chatmon, John Carson, and D.H. Williams. Born way up in the mountain state of Utah, he brought the best of the wild west down to the little town of Austin, Texas, which is now proud to have him call River City home.”
