Open Mic at Ruta Maya

every 4th Saturday of the month.

Join us for our open-mic gathering at

Ruta Maya Coffee House & Organic Coffee Importing
3601 South Congress Avenue, Suite D-200, Austin,
512-707-9637
http://rutamaya.net/

Time: 3-6 pm. Note: Starting in June the time will change to 2-5 p.m.

Room to jam outside. We're talking old-time, folk, bluegrass, country blues, mountain music, world music, etc. We'll even take new songs done in a traditional style, but let's keep it acoustic. If you happened to be in Austin in the early-1970s when the AFTM got started, you might remember our bi-monthly meetings at various venues around town. We have not done the open-mic format since the Armadillo World Headquarters beer garden days. If interested in playing, sign up at 3 pm and we'll get started around 3:30 pm. We need audience as well as musicians, so tell your friends and neighbors to come on out and support live traditional music in Austin!

Here are a few simple rules and info about the event:

  1. Performances must be acoustic traditional folk music.
  2. Performers must sign up to play.
  3. A sound system and sound engineer will be available.
  4. Performances will be no longer than 15 minutes, once mics are set up.
  5. Periodically AFTM will pass the tip jar to cover the costs of the sound system and engineer.
  6. Any money collected in excess of the sound system & engineer expense will go to AFTM to help defray expenses of our various programs.
